Last night, Lady Gaga performed “Til It Happens to You,” her original song from the documentary The Hunting Ground after a screening for the documentary in L.A. The song, which she co-wrote with Diane Warren, was written and recorded for the campus sexual assault film, a film which struck an emotional chord with the pop star.
“I always tell this story about how Diane had to convince me that it was OK to sing about this and reveal this thing about myself,” said Gaga before her performance, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of something truly authentic.”
When the song was finished, she added, “If you are taking care of young people in the industry, make sure you ask them lots of things about their sexuality and well-being.”
The track is already up for a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Original Song, and it seems to be a likely choice for an Oscar nominations (the nominations will be announced in less than two weeks).
