“Til It Happens to You,” the original song Lady Gaga co-wrote with Diane Warren for the documentary The Hunting Ground, lent feeling and immediacy to the issue of sexual assault on college campuses. Though it didn’t win an Oscar, Gaga’s ballad has inspired a singing competition for university students in the U.S. Survivors and allies on campuses across the country submitted covers of the song to continue raising awareness about consent, reporting, and prevention.

The documentary’s producers narrowed the field to fourteen semi-finalists, from West Virginia University to St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Before April 1, the public can vote to determine three finalists who will face an all-star panel that includes Diane Warren, LL Cool J and Lady Gaga’s mother, Cynthia.
The current vote leader is by Three Miles Lost, the all-female a cappella group at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Watch their moving video below and browse the other contenders here.
