“I’m elated to be directed by and starring with Bradley in this project,” Gaga tweeted. “He’s a brilliant, visionary artist.”
Gaga will play a young singer who becomes increasingly successful as her lover and teacher’s star starts to diminish. Gaga will compose and perform new music for the film, reports Billboard.
A Star Is Born has been remade multiple times in the past, including versions in 1937, 1954 and 1976—the latter starring Barbra Streisand. There was a rumor that Beyoncé would play the starring role this time, but clearly that didn’t pan out.
Clint Eastwood was originally slated to direct, but he pulled out when Beyoncé didn’t get the part, reports the BBC.
